What’s Cooking?

If you ever visit Lehigh or eventually become a student here, you will ask yourself, “what is there to eat around here?” Food is one of my favorite topics to write about so I will do my best to review some of the best on and off campus places that I have been to so far.

On-Campus:

  • Johnny’s bagels: Located in Farrington Square, Johnny’s bagels offers breakfast through dinner from 7:00 A.M to 9:00 P.M.On Tuesdays and Thursdays I will always stop in for a quick egg sandwich and coffee for breakfast. The atmosphere is similar to that of a New York style deli with tons of options to choose from. The staff is always friendly and helpful as they improve the mood of an otherwise ordinary morning. While waiting on line, there’s stacks of fresh crumb cakes and cookies all trying to lure an unsuspecting customer. This is definitely a great spot if you’re looking to grab a quick bite.

What I recommend:

Bacon Me Crazy- Egg and Bacon on a bagel.

Hamilton melt -“Corned beef, pastrami and turkey with melted swiss, cole slaw or sauerkraut, russian dressing and spicy mustard.”

Johnnys

  • The Cup: The Cup, also located in Farrington square, is an ice cream parlor with a large variety of ice creams, toppings, and cones. The staff is also friendly and usually stuffs your cup or cone with an obscene amount of ice cream. The ice cream is always creamy and sweet and goes great after any meal.                                                                                                                                                                     What I recommend:

Peanut Butter swirl in the m&m cookie cone

  • The Hawk’s Nest: The Hawk’s Nest is located in Lamberton Hall which is much higher up on campus. Previously open only after 8:00 P.M., The Hawk’s Nest is now open for lunch through the early hours of the morning. This place is a hot spot for students on the weekend as people place orders food that will certainly clog your arteries. The inside has the ambiance of a late night bar with a game room upstairs and is usually jam-packed with students at night,

What I recommend:

Feel Good Fries: Fries smothered in bacon, ranch, and melted cheddar cheese.

Lehigh Brownie Milkshake: Creamy vanilla milkshake loaded with chunks of fudge             brownies.

Hawksnest

Off-Campus:

  • Fegley’s Bethlehem Brew Works:This restaurant is by far one of my favorite places to eat in Bethlehem. Located in Northern Bethlehem on Main Steet, Brew Works has the appearance of a contemporary brewery in an otherwise historical town. The staff is efficient and accommodating as they will offer recommendations and answer any questions. The beer cheese soup and pretzels are my favorite appetizers on the menu.  In fact, the creaminess and sharpness of the soup makes it my all-time favorite beer cheese soup. If that’s not enough, you can order soft, buttery pretzels to dip in the delicious soup.

What I recommend:

Bessemer’s Bratwurst: “German bratwurst from the Alpine Wurst & Meat House in               Honesdale, PA. Fegley’s ESB mustard gravy, Bavarian red cabbage and warm                   German potato salad.”

Beer & Cheese Soup: “Wisconsin sharp cheddar and Fegley’s Valley Golden Ale.”

  • Molly’s Irish Grille and Sports Pub: Molly’s is an Irish sports bar conveniently located right off campus. The inside has the appearance of a classic tavern with beer advertisements and classic signs decorating the walls. The service at Molly’s is superior as our food was brought out fast and timely by our friendly and patient waitress. The nachos were exceptional and served with a heaping pile of chili and melted cheese. After eating dining hall burgers for two months, the burger hit the spot as it was cooked perfectly with a warm pink center.

What I recommend:

Baked Chili Cheese Nachos: A generous pile of nachos with hot chili, melted                       cheese, and classic toppings.

Double “B” Burger: Bacon & Bleu cheese burger.
